Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and Memphis offers a great opportunity to introduce and expand the game through the Memphis Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA). Whether you are looking to start a community-based club or a school-based team, MYLA provides support, structure, and resources to help establish a successful program.
Programs in Memphis can be structured as either:
Community Club-Based Program – Open to all players in a specific geographic area regardless of school affiliation. These clubs often serve multiple schools that do not yet have their own teams.
School-Based Program – Affiliated directly with a specific school, requiring players to be students at that institution. These teams may be officially recognized by the school or operate as a club sport.
Connect with parents, teachers, and community leaders to gauge interest.
Host informational meetings to explain the game, program goals, and benefits.
Recruit volunteers, including potential coaches, team organizers, and administrators.
Register your team with MYLA to participate in organized league play.
Ensure coaches complete USA Lacrosse certification and background checks.
Follow MYLA’s guidelines on player eligibility, safety, and league rules.
Identify funding sources through sponsorships, donations, fundraising events, or player fees.
Obtain necessary equipment, including sticks, helmets, pads, and goals. MYLA may provide assistance with starter kits.
Work with local sports stores or lacrosse organizations for discounted gear.
Work with schools, parks, or private facilities to secure field space for practices and games.
Coordinate with MYLA for potential shared-use agreements or facility partnerships.
Offer clinics and “Try Lacrosse” days to introduce the sport.
Develop age-appropriate teams (e.g., U8, U10, U12, U14).
Emphasize player development through structured practices and skill progression.
Recruit volunteer or paid coaches with a background in lacrosse or youth sports.

Establish a board or committee to handle administration, scheduling, and team operations.
Use social media, local schools, and community centers to spread awareness.
Partner with local schools for PE demonstrations or after-school programs.

Enter your teams into MYLA league play and local tournaments.
Foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and growth at all levels.
